Arrest and Imprisonment of 'Couple Linked to Iran' in France for Plotting to Kill Jews

According to a report by the French news agency AFP, French security agencies recently arrested a couple for their 'involvement in Iranian plots to kill Jews in Europe.' The report, published on Saturday, September 8, identifies the two individuals as 'Abdulkarim S., 34 years old,' and his wife 'Sabrina B., 33 years old,' with their arrest date noted as May 4 of this year. The news agency cites sources within the French police stating that the couple intended 'to kill several Jews in Germany and France' and were charged in a Paris court in May. The report of their arrest was initially published on Thursday, September 7, on the French website 'Mediapart,' which refers to the case as 'Marco Polo.' The French Domestic Security Agency (DGSI) has indicated that this case reflects the 'resurgence of terrorism supported by the Iranian government in Europe.' According to AFP, the document also states that Iranian security agencies 'resumed targeted killings in 2015' and that these threats have 'worsened due to the Gaza war.' The report comes just days after the German magazine Spiegel published an investigative report claiming that the Islamic Republic has systematically recruited criminals in Europe to carry out attacks against Jews and Israelis. Spiegel previously mentioned the name of the individual arrested in France, 'Abdulkarim S.' The German publication detailed the operations and actions of this individual, identifying him as a 34-year-old French national with a history of violent crimes who intended to carry out operations on German soil. German intelligence services issued a warrant for his arrest after tracking him down in late April of this year, and he was subsequently arrested in France and charged with terrorism-related offenses. In recent years, security agencies in several European countries have reported multiple arrests of individuals linked to the Iranian government on charges of 'conspiracy for terrorist actions.' About four years ago, Assadollah Assadi, an Iranian diplomat, was arrested for his involvement in a bombing plot against the Mujahideen-e Khalq organization and was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Belgian court; Assadi was exchanged in June 2023 with a Belgian aid worker imprisoned in Iran and returned to Iran. In June of this year, the Swedish Security Service also announced that it had evidence indicating that the Islamic Republic of Iran was using Swedish criminal gangs to carry out 'violent acts' against Israel and other countries and groups in Sweden that Tehran considers a threat. Iran denies these reports, labeling their content as 'baseless and malicious accusations' stemming from 'misleading and influenced information' from Israel.
