Arrest of a Suspect in Connection with the Attack on Borussia Dortmund's Team Bus

The German prosecutor's office announced that one person has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the explosions that occurred on Tuesday night in Dortmund. On Tuesday, three explosions took place near the bus carrying members of the Borussia Dortmund football team, injuring the team's Spanish defender. The explosions occurred on the route from the hotel to the stadium before the team's match against AS Monaco. Ralph Jäger, the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, stated on Wednesday, April 12, that a comprehensive investigation into the Dortmund explosions is underway. According to Reuters, Frauke Köhler, a spokesperson for the German Federal Prosecutor's Office, said that metal fragments were found in the explosive devices. The spokesperson also mentioned that three letters were discovered at the explosion sites, which strengthen the possibility of a terrorist motive behind the explosions. Frauke Köhler added that the letters referred to German Tornado reconnaissance aircraft operating in Syria, deployed to combat ISIS. The author of the letters also called for the closure of the U.S. military base in Ramstein, located in western Germany. According to this judicial official, the apartments of two suspects have been searched, and one of them has been arrested. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Borussia Dortmund announced that 26-year-old Marc Bartra underwent surgery due to a broken right wrist and shrapnel in his arm. German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented on the Dortmund explosions on Wednesday, saying, 'We all know we are facing a heinous act.' The Chancellor added, 'We were all shocked when we heard the news of the attack on the Borussia Dortmund players' bus yesterday.' Merkel also praised the residents of Dortmund for accommodating AS Monaco fans. The match between Borussia Dortmund and Monaco in the UEFA Champions League was canceled a quarter of an hour before the game and postponed for 24 hours.
