Arrest of Individual Who Installed ISIS Flag on Fasa Bridge in Shiraz

A judicial official stated that an individual who installed the flag of the Islamic State (ISIS) on the Fasa Bridge in Shiraz has been arrested and is under interrogation. According to ISNA news agency, Ali Salehi, the prosecutor of Shiraz, said on Tuesday, June 13, "This individual had installed the ISIS flag at the Fasa Bridge in Shiraz, and after being identified by law enforcement, he was arrested." He added that "the arrested individual is under interrogation to determine the cause and motive behind his criminal behavior." The prosecutor did not mention the identity of this individual. Following armed attacks on the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and the Islamic Consultative Assembly on June 7, security officials of the Islamic Republic have intensified security measures and reported the arrest of more than 40 individuals affiliated with the Islamic State group. ISIS has claimed responsibility for these attacks, which left 17 dead and 56 injured. The public prosecutor and revolutionary prosecutor of Shiraz, in other statements reported by IRNA news agency, said that interrogations of individuals arrested in Laristan on charges of connection with ISIS continue. The head of the judiciary in Fars province reported on June 10 that seven individuals suspected of collaborating with the "heretical and terrorist group ISIS" were arrested in Laristan. Ali Al-Qasi Mehr also stated that "the affiliation of these individuals with the terrorist group ISIS has not yet been established, and we are currently investigating." He mentioned that these individuals possessed "various prohibited items." Meanwhile, a member of the Iranian Parliament's Security Commission provided a new account of the attack on the Parliament, stating that "the attackers were definitely three individuals" and that "whether there was a fourth person or not, and who filmed and broadcasted from one of the rooms at the scene, is currently under investigation by security officials." According to Mehr news agency, Mojtaba Zolnoor explained the reason for the attackers' failure to enter the Parliament chamber, stating: "Mr. Yousefi, a wounded guard at the first gate, despite being shot in the side, managed to struggle to the iron door leading to the chamber and close it, standing behind the door." He added: "With this guard's action..., the terrorists shot at the door, which caused him to be shot in the shoulder as well, but he still stood behind the door, and as a result, the terrorists made their way to the floors of the representatives' offices." Mr. Zolnoor stated that each of the attackers carried "dual magazines, about 480 bullets, four grenades, and explosive vests," which, "if it weren't for the guards' resistance and these individuals had entered the Parliament with this equipment, a catastrophe would have occurred." According to this member of the National Security Commission, "after the Parliament incident, continuous and permanent security measures have been implemented in the form of deep and covert inspections in addition to conventional protections for all vital, sensitive, and important centers." In this context, the Iranian police reported the killing of "four armed criminals" affiliated with ISIS. ISIS has called for new attacks in Iran, the USA, and Europe. The commander of the IRGC described the attacks in Tehran as a "demand" from Saudi Arabia to the terrorists. The presence of a woman among the attackers of the Parliament has been denied.
