Arrest of One Person at Heathrow Airport in Connection with Manchester Suicide Attack

British police announced that a man has been arrested at London Heathrow Airport in connection with the Manchester suicide attack. However, it is unclear whether the arrested individual was detained at the airport itself or sent to Britain during a transfer of suspects. In a statement released on June 7, the British police said, 'This 38-year-old man is suspected of activities linked to terrorism and is currently in custody.' The statement noted that the arrest was 'pre-planned and there was no direct threat to the airport [Heathrow].' Heathrow Airport is considered the busiest airport in Europe, and the police did not specify whether the suspect was arrested at the airport or handed over after arriving there during a potential transfer of suspects. In the suicide attack on June 1 during a concert by a pop singer in Manchester, 22 people were killed and 59 were injured, many of whom were teenagers and children, including an eight-year-old girl. Shortly after the explosion, police identified the suicide bomber as Salman Abedi, born in Britain to Libyan parents. Following the attack, several suspects involved in planning it were arrested. The British Home Secretary has also stated that members of 'a network' are being pursued, and some of them 'have not yet been arrested.' Currently, according to British security officials, 19 people have been arrested in the country, with 12 of them released without charges. The father and one of the brothers of the suicide bomber are also in custody in Libya. Libyan government officials in Tripoli have stated that the Abedi brothers are members of a group known as 'Islamic State.' This group has claimed that the attack was carried out by one of its 'soldiers.' Two weeks after the Manchester suicide attack, during attacks late on Saturday night, June 3, a vehicle ran over several pedestrians on London Bridge, and those inside attacked people with knives. This incident left seven dead, and British police have also labeled it a 'terrorist attack.'
