Arrest of Six More in Connection with Assault on Iranian Asylum Seeker in London

London police have filed a case against six more individuals for the severe assault of an Iranian asylum seeker in the south of the city. Thus far, London police have arrested a total of 16 people on charges of attacking this Kurdish Iranian asylum seeker named Ahmad. According to the Associated Press, when Ahmad was waiting at a bus station with two friends named Delshad Mohammad and Mostafa, a group of young people approached him. Police say that when this group realized he was an asylum seeker, they chased him through the streets, cornered him, and beat him severely. The physical assault on Ahmad only stopped when the sound of police sirens approaching the area was heard and a group of passersby intervened. The ages of the six individuals charged on Tuesday range from 15 to 22 years. Two of them have been charged with seriously injuring the victim with racist motives. The Associated Press adds that approximately 30 people have been questioned or directly accused of committing the crime and arrested in this case. The attack occurred on Friday in the Croydon area located in the southern suburbs of London. Ahmad has been hospitalized due to severe injuries, with a fractured skull and a blood clot forming in his brain. However, police report that he is improving. Meanwhile, London detectives are trying to identify and contact his family in Iran, but the police do not intend to disclose his identity. The Mayor of London and senior police officials have strongly condemned the attack. The British Prime Minister described it as "a vile and absolutely intolerable attack." As investigations continue, police have increased their assessment of the number of individuals involved in this attack. Senior detective Jean Corrigan stated, "I believe the attack started with a small group of youths, and then a larger number, perhaps around 20 to 30, joined them, and they ruthlessly attacked these individuals because they were asylum seekers." Five of the accused appeared in court on Monday only to provide their details. All of them are between 20 and 24 years old and reside in the Croydon area of South London. Four of them have currently been released on bail. However, the fifth accused, who has been charged with injuring the victim with racist motives, remains in police custody.
