As a Tel Aviv airplane lands, an 'anti-Israel' crowd storms an airport in Russia

An 'angry' crowd in the predominantly Muslim region of Dagestan, Russia, attacked an airport where a flight from Israel arrived on Sunday, forcing authorities to close the facility and reroute flights. According to a statement from the Dagestan Ministry of Health late Sunday, the clashes left at least 10 injured, with two reported in serious condition. State media TASS reported that 'the protesters oppose the conflict between Palestine and Israel.' CNN reported, citing a statement from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, that the 'Makhachkala Uytash' airport (MCX) was temporarily closed and flights were redirected as 'unknown individuals' entered the facility. A Red Wing Airlines flight from Tel Aviv landed at 19:17 local time on Sunday and was quickly surrounded by protesters. Multiple videos shared on social media show a crowd of people inside the airport and on the runway, some supporting Palestinians with flags while others forcefully passed through the closed doors of the international terminal. CNN also reported that the crowd outside the airport held signs with slogans such as 'We are against Jewish refugees' and 'There is no place for child killers in Dagestan.' This incident is the latest indication of the significant global tensions and divisions over the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which began with a terrorist attack by Hamas militants on October 7, resulting in the deaths of around 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of over 200. The U.S., Japan, and the European Union have designated this Palestinian militant group, supported by the Islamic Republic, as a terrorist organization.
