At least 94 people, including several children, lost their lives after a boat capsized in the waters off northern Mozambique, with 26 others reported missing. The official stated on Monday, April 8, 2024, on state television that the vessel was a fishing boat that did not have a license to transport people and was 'overloaded.' He mentioned that on Sunday, a maritime incident was recorded in which at least 94 people died after the capsizing of a vessel carrying 130 people, with 26 still missing. He added that the vessel was transporting people from Lunga in the Nampula province to Mozambique Island. State television quoted another local maritime official as saying that the passengers were fleeing a cholera outbreak. Italy rescued dozens of migrants from capsized boats, Pakistan arrested 12 human traffickers in connection with the sinking of a Greek boat, and France and Germany are cooperating to address the increasing trend of migration from Tunisia.
