At Least Four Killed in New Suicide Attack in Downtown Kabul

Continuing the deadly attacks by militants in the capital of Afghanistan, on Tuesday morning, September 7, another suicide attack claimed the lives of 'at least four people' and left several injured. According to Reuters, citing a spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Interior, at least four individuals were killed and 'three people' were injured in this suicide attack. Meanwhile, an official from the Afghan Ministry of Health stated that one dead and eight injured were transferred to a hospital in Kabul. No group has yet claimed responsibility for this latest suicide attack. Reuters reports that this suicide attack occurred at the entrance of a bank near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. Several cities in Afghanistan, including its capital, Kabul, have been targeted by deadly suicide and 'terrorist' attacks in recent months, resulting in dozens of deaths and fueling public criticism of the Ashraf Ghani government. According to United Nations statistics cited by Reuters, in the first half of this year, 209 civilians were killed and 777 were injured in such attacks. One of the attacks last Friday occurred at a mosque in Kabul. Armed men attacked a Shia mosque in Kabul, leaving at least 20 dead and over 50 injured. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for this attack. This attack, which lasted for several hours on Friday, September 3, ended with the elimination of all assailants. In response to this attack, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the President of Afghanistan, condemned the act and called on all Islamic authorities around the world to denounce it. In June of this year, another mosque belonging to Shia Afghans was targeted in a suicide attack that killed four people and sent five to hospitals.
