Atifeh Rangriz, women's rights activist, sentenced to two additional years in prison

Atifeh Rangriz, a women's rights activist and political prisoner who received a sentence of seven additional years in prison ten days ago, has been sentenced to another two years in a new case. Hossein Taj, Ms. Rangriz's lawyer, reported that the criminal court in Damghan sentenced his client to two years of imprisonment for the charge of 'spreading falsehoods.' According to this lawyer, the total sentences for Atifeh Rangriz have now reached 12 years and three months. The new two-year sentence was issued while she was on medical leave, after being sentenced to seven years and seven months by the Damghan Revolutionary Court on December 5. According to her lawyer, she was sentenced to seven years for the charge of 'forming a Telegram group (Gago Translation)' and seven months for 'propaganda against the regime,' along with a two-year ban on online activities. These charges were related to a Telegram group where Atifeh Rangriz published her translations of works by Veronika Gago, an Argentine feminist writer. Following the issuance of this sentence, Veronika Gago expressed solidarity with Atifeh Rangriz in a video posted on social media and called for the release of political prisoners in Iran. Last year, Atifeh Rangriz was sentenced by the Shahroud Revolutionary Court to two years, seven months, and 16 days for 'collaboration and membership in opposition groups,' and to seven months and 16 days for 'propaganda against the regime.' She has been imprisoned in Shahroud since July of this year and was recently granted a few days of medical leave due to her deteriorating health. However, her lawyer reported that judicial authorities rejected the extension of her medical leave to continue treatment for her heart condition.
