Attack by 19-Year-Old Afghan National with Knife on a Woman in Frankfurt

The Frankfurt prosecutor's office and police announced that a 41-year-old German woman was severely injured in an attack by a 19-year-old Afghan national. According to a statement released on Tuesday, June 22, the assailant attacked the German woman while she was sitting on a park bench near the 'Main' river on Monday afternoon. German police say the victim was saved by the intervention of passersby, and the assailant fled the scene. However, he was arrested while hiding in the bushes. According to police reports, the assailant approached the woman from behind, grabbed her shoulder, and then stabbed her multiple times in the head and neck with a knife. After separating from the victim and her falling to the ground, the assailant struck her again until passersby arrived, and he fled. The Frankfurt prosecutor's office has issued an arrest warrant for this 19-year-old assailant on charges of attempted murder and causing serious injury. The police have also announced that investigations into the aspects of this attack and the motives of the assailant have begun. This is the second attack carried out by Afghan migrants on German citizens in recent days. About ten days ago, a 25-year-old Afghan national attacked a gathering of far-right groups in Mannheim, injuring several people and killing a police officer. In this attack, which occurred on June 11, the assailant stabbed participants, injuring political activist Michael Sturzenberger, a police officer, and four others. The 29-year-old police officer who was injured in this incident died two days later due to the severity of his injuries. In response to this incident, some Afghan citizens residing in Germany held gatherings to show solidarity with the German police and condemned violent actions. Meanwhile, the German government announced it is reviewing the expulsion of migrants from countries like Afghanistan and Syria, who are considered a security threat in the country. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated on June 16 that 'everything possible is being done to resume the expulsion of criminal migrants to countries like Afghanistan and Syria.' According to Ms. Faeser, those who are considered a 'potential threat' to Germany should be 'expelled quickly.'
