Attack by Two Women on a Police Station in Istanbul

Turkish media reported that two women attacked an anti-riot police station in Istanbul, involving grenade throwing and gunfire. According to reports from the French news agency, including the Dogan news agency, the attackers launched several grenades and opened fire at the anti-riot police station in the Bayrampasa neighborhood of Istanbul on Thursday, March 4. CNN Turkey also reported that the attackers took refuge inside a nearby building, but prior to that, police forces managed to injure one of them with gunfire. No reports have yet been released on the potential casualties from this incident. However, reports from Turkish state news agencies indicate that the police forces eventually succeeded in neutralizing both attackers. Turkey has been on high alert for months following deadly attacks in the country. The last of these attacks occurred on February 18 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, resulting in the deaths of 29 people, an incident that the Turkish government attributed to PKK rebels and Syrian Kurdish militants. Istanbul has also witnessed several attacks during this period, including one where an attacker killed 10 people by detonating themselves in a tourist center of the city. Responsibility for some of these explosions and attacks has been claimed by a group known as the 'Islamic State.' However, it is still unclear which group organized today's attack.
