Attack on Three Law Enforcement Officers in Khash

The commander of the police force in Sistan and Baluchestan province announced that one police officer was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday, January 30, in the city of Khash after being attacked by armed individuals. Hossein Rahimi, in an interview with Fars News Agency, stated that the occupants of a 'passing vehicle' opened fire on these officers. According to Mr. Rahimi, these officers were dispatched to the 'Nokabad' area of Khash after a traffic accident was reported to police hotline 110. This attack on law enforcement officers marks the third reported assassination in Sistan and Baluchestan province in January. On Thursday evening, January 11, a teacher and a member of the local Basij force were killed by two motorcyclists in 'Nasirabad village', near the city of Rask in Sistan and Baluchestan province. The police commander of Sistan and Baluchestan reported on Tuesday, January 15, the arrest of 12 members of a group he described as 'terrorist' in connection with this incident. Mr. Rahimi mentioned on Wednesday, January 24, that the number of arrested individuals from this group had risen to 18, stating that these individuals had confessed to the murder of at least 10 people and the assassination of several others. On Sunday evening, January 7, the public relations office of the Quds Base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that two senior members of this organization, along with a Basij member, were killed by armed individuals at the Saravan border in Sistan and Baluchestan province. In recent months, several military and law enforcement personnel in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan region have been killed by armed groups. On Thursday, December 5, three police officers from the city of Zahak in Sistan and Baluchestan province were killed while on patrol. The day after this incident, Jamshid Rakhshani Nasb, the governor of Zahak, stated that 'seven suspects involved in this incident' had been arrested. On Saturday, October 26, Iranian officials reported the killing of two border guards in the border area of Sistan and Baluchestan province. On October 19, Bahram Bashandeh, the director of social affairs for the Iranshahr county, was targeted by two armed individuals and died in the hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Prior to that, armed attacks on Iranian law enforcement on October 16 and 17 resulted in the deaths of four police officers. In this context, the police commander stated that the arrested 'terrorists' had received money through an Arab country.
