Attack with Bow and Arrow on Israeli Embassy in Serbia; Muslim Attacker Shot Dead by Police

An assailant who attacked the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, with a bow and arrow was shot dead by police. According to the Associated Press, citing the Serbian Ministry of Interior, the attacker wounded one of the embassy guards and was killed by the guard's gunfire. Serbia and Israel stated that based on initial signs, this attack may have been motivated by terrorism. Ivica Dacic, the Serbian Minister of Interior, stated that the individual shot an arrow at the embassy guard, which struck him in the neck, and the guard was forced to use his weapon in self-defense, shooting the assailant dead. According to the report, the embassy guard underwent surgery after being transferred to the hospital and is in stable condition. A spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed this 'terrorist' attack, stating that the embassy was closed and no staff were harmed. According to the Serbian Minister of Interior, investigations are ongoing, but it appears to be a terrorist attack, as no other motive for the attack on the Israeli embassy guard has been observed. He identified the assailant as a 25-year-old Serb who had converted to Islam. Police are investigating any possible connections the assailant may have had with foreign terrorist groups and radical Islamist movements. Following this attack, Serbian authorities issued a security alert in Belgrade, including for foreign embassies, government buildings, and public places such as shopping centers and other crowded areas. The Israeli embassy is located not far from the U.S. embassy in an upscale area of Belgrade and is heavily protected. Serbia has maintained close relations with Israel since the onset of the Gaza war. The U.S. has called for a rewrite of parts of the ceasefire and hostage release plan to revive negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. embassy in Beirut advised American citizens to reconsider travel to Lebanon due to a complex security environment. There was also a shooting at the U.S. embassy in Beirut, to which the Lebanese army responded, injuring the assailant. Israel stated it had thwarted a Hamas 'bombing plot' originating from Turkey.
