Australia Sanctions Several Officials of Iran's Missile Program

On Tuesday, October 16, local time, Australia's Foreign Minister announced that the country has sanctioned five officials of the Iranian government's missile program in response to the Islamic Republic's attacks on Israel. Penny Wong stated that under these sanctions, two directors and a senior official of the Islamic Republic's Aerospace Organization, the director of the 'Shahid Bagheri' industrial group, and the commercial director of the 'Shahid Hemmat' industrial group are banned from entering Australia, and their assets in Australia will be frozen. This action follows similar sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom in response to the Islamic Republic's missile attack on Israel. According to the Australian Foreign Minister, with these new sanctions, the total number of sanctions announced by the Australian government against Iranian officials has reached 200. Penny Wong described the missile attacks on Israel on October 1 as a precursor to the start of a broader regional war, adding, 'The Iranian government's missile program is now a serious threat to regional and global security.' The Australian Foreign Minister simultaneously warned Australian citizens to avoid traveling to Israel and urged those currently in the country to leave 'as long as passenger flights are available.' Penny Wong expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories, considering the risk of military and terrorist attacks against Israeli interests in the region to remain serious.
