Australian Man and His Dog Rescued After 3 Months Adrift in the Pacific Ocean

An Australian sailor who was adrift at sea with his dog for three months was rescued by a Mexican fishing boat in international waters. According to the Associated Press, the fishing company "Grupo Mar" stated that the crew found Timothy Lindsay Shadok, a 54-year-old sailor, aboard his damaged and disabled boat in the Pacific Ocean, 1900 kilometers from land. The company reported that Mr. Shadok and his dog "Bella" were in "unstable" physical condition without food and shelter. The crew of the tuna fishing boat provided them with water, food, and basic medical care. Shadok was on the Mexican fishing boat that rescued him. Grupo Mar did not provide further details about when Shadok began his journey or the date of his rescue. The tuna fishing boat, captained by Oscar Meza Orgon, is expected to arrive on Tuesday at the coastal port of "Manzanillo" in the Pacific with Timothy Lindsay Shadok and Bella. Antonio Suarez Gutierrez, the founder and president of Grupo Mar, said he is proud of his crew and praised them for their humanity in rescuing someone whose life was in danger. Mr. Shadok told Australia's Nine News that he and his dog survived by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater after a storm damaged his boat and destroyed all its electronic equipment. In a photo provided by Grupo Mar to the Associated Press, Shadok, thin and bearded, is seen smiling with a blood pressure cuff around his arm. Timothy Lindsay Shadok, thin with long hair and beard, said in a video aired by Nine News on Sunday night, "I went through very tough conditions at sea and just need rest and good food because I was alone at sea for a long time." He added, "Otherwise, I am in very good health." The Sydney Daily Telegraph reported that Mr. Shadok, a resident of Sydney, Australia, and his dog had set off from La Paz, Mexico, towards French Polynesia in April, which ended weeks later when their boat broke down.
