Babak Moradifard, Political Activist, Arrested Again

Babak Moradifard, a former political prisoner, was arrested following a summons to the Evin Prosecutor's Office on November 1. This government critic emphasized in an Instagram post prior to his visit to the Evin Prosecutor's Office that all his activities have been limited to the virtual space and conducted 'within the framework of the law' and 'according to citizens' rights,' referring to the case-making by security agencies in Khorramabad, Lorestan province, over the past month. Moradifard also noted that if any confession from him is broadcast in the future, it would 'certainly have been under pressure and coercive conditions' and is not acceptable to him. According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, this political activist is facing new charges in a judicial case, including 'propaganda against the regime' and 'disturbing public opinion.' The report states that Moradifard had previously been detained during the nationwide protests last year following the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini while in the custody of the morality police. Additionally, rapper Sadegh Ghasemi was arrested in Ahvaz, Fatemeh Sepahri was banned from visiting her children with prison officials stating her comments in the hospital were 'criminal,' Niloufar Mirzaei, one of those detained during the funeral of Armita Garavand, was transferred to Qarchak Prison, and Reza Aghdasi, a labor activist, was tried in the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran.
