Bahareh Hedayat Continues Treatment Outside Prison Until Medical Commission Decision

Bahareh Hedayat's lawyer, a political prisoner, announced on Wednesday, April 24, that her client will continue treatment outside of prison until a decision is made by the medical commission regarding her case. Zahra Minewi wrote on the social media platform 'X' that Hedayat will 'continue her treatment process outside of prison until this commission makes a determination.' Bahareh Hedayat, a political and civil rights activist, had previously requested to pursue treatment outside of prison due to her diagnosis of 'cervical cancer.' On April 17, she reported in an Instagram note about the 'opposition' of officials to the extension of her stay of execution. This comes as the civil rights activist stated that oncologists and her treating doctors have emphasized that due to potential risks and the necessity of following up on treatment and surgeries, she must be under medical supervision outside of prison. Born in 1981 in Tehran, Hedayat has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times due to her activism. She was sentenced to four years in prison for protesting the downing of a Ukrainian airplane by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Flight PS752, which was traveling from Tehran to Kyiv, was shot down on January 8, 2020, resulting in the deaths of all 176 passengers. The human rights situation in Iran has consistently been criticized by human rights organizations and the United States. Recently, Robert Gilchrist, a senior diplomat at the U.S. State Department, expressed concern about the worsening human rights violations, particularly regarding women's rights in Iran. Bahareh Hedayat, after being summoned to prison despite her need for treatment, stated: 'My heart and soul are with you, the noble and fighting people of Iran.'
