Bahareh Hedayat, political activist and civil rights advocate, announces extension of her sentence suspension until April 22

Bahareh Hedayat, a political activist and civil rights advocate, announced on April 6 in an Instagram post on the occasion of her 43rd birthday that her return to prison has been postponed until April 22 due to the need to continue her cancer treatment. In her note, she wrote about the progress of her treatment: 'My treatment has not made significant progress due to the Nowruz holidays and the unavailability of my treating physician; only the second pathology report has come back confirming the initial diagnosis. We hope to resume treatment on Saturday.' Hedayat thanked those who inquired about her condition and added: 'I must say that this new illness and the old regret of not being a mother have not diminished my resolve and spirit to accompany the people of Iran.' This political activist, who has faced long prison sentences multiple times, concluded by stating that these 'personal afflictions' are 'insignificant' compared to what the people of Iran are going through, emphasizing: 'The desire for freedom for our homeland and compatriots flows in all our souls until the day freedom is achieved and the fate of the homeland is freed from the pollution of tyranny.' Bahareh Hedayat was born on April 5, 1981, in Tehran, is a political activist and prisoner, and one of the activists of the One Million Signatures Campaign for changing misogynistic laws. She has been arrested and imprisoned several times and during the 2022 Iranian uprising, she was detained without charges on October 3, 2022, by government forces in Tehran and taken to Evin Prison to serve a four-year sentence for protesting against the downing of the Ukrainian airplane by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This civil rights activist announced on March 16, 2023, that she has been diagnosed with uterine cancer.
