Bahareh Hedayat Transferred to Hospital on the Thirteenth Day of Hunger Strike

Bahareh Hedayat's lawyer announced that this political prisoner was transferred from Evin Prison to a hospital due to deteriorating health on the thirteenth day of her hunger strike. Zahra Minewi wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, September 12, that according to family information, her client has been taken to the hospital. The name of the hospital has not been disclosed. In recent days, this lawyer had reported severe weakness, heart palpitations, and an eight-kilogram weight loss for Bahareh Hedayat following her hunger strike. According to her, Bahareh Hedayat has become so weak that on Sunday, September 3, she was able to attend a family visit with the help of a prison officer. Bahareh Hedayat began her hunger strike on Friday, September 1, in protest against issues including the 'increased repression' of protesters by the Islamic Republic government and the death of Javad Rouhi, a detained protester. Recently, in a letter, she described her hunger strike as a renewal of her commitment to the 'public conscience of Iranians for freedom' and the 'Mahsa uprising.' In part of her letter dated September 9, she mentioned the importance of 'her life, freedom, or being imprisoned' in increasing the will to 'overthrow the government.' So far, in addition to the family of Javad Rouhi, the deceased protester in prison, several student activists have expressed concern about Bahareh Hedayat's health and called for an end to her hunger strike. Bahareh Hedayat is currently serving a four-year and eight-month sentence in Evin Prison for participating in a protest against the IRGC's missile strike on a Ukrainian airplane that occurred in 2019. She has previously spent years in prison due to her civil and political activities.
