Barack Obama: The Nuclear Agreement with Iran Will Be Completed in My Name

Barack Obama, the President of the United States, stated that a potential nuclear agreement with Iran "will be completed in my name" and therefore he will not accept a "bad deal." According to AFP, Mr. Obama assured about 1,200 attendees at the "Adas Israel" synagogue in Washington on Friday, May 22, that he is committed to Israel's concerns about Iran not acquiring nuclear weapons. The U.S. President emphasized that following a potential nuclear agreement with Iran, both Israel and the entire region will be "safer." The governments of Israel and the U.S. are in severe disagreement over a potential nuclear agreement with Iran and the peace process with the Palestinians. The Obama administration claims that this agreement will prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and will guarantee Israel's security, while Benjamin Netanyahu's government holds a completely different view, believing that such an agreement paves the way for the Islamic Republic to acquire nuclear weapons. Despite this, the U.S. President has stressed that the disagreements between the two countries do not affect Washington's commitment to support Israel. According to the German news agency, Mr. Obama stated: "Israel should know that the U.S. has always supported it and will always support it." In an interview with "The Atlantic" magazine published a day before his speech, he also mentioned that disagreements with Israel regarding the Iranian nuclear issue and peace with the Palestinians do not mean "a reduction in U.S. support for Israel." Barack Obama emphasized: "The foundation of U.S.-Israel security relations is unassailable." The U.S. government has long been engaged in discussions with Iran alongside France, Britain, Germany, Russia, and China regarding its controversial nuclear program. The deadline for these countries to reach a comprehensive and final agreement on this issue, which allows the Islamic Republic to continue its peaceful nuclear program while ending the sanctions and restrictions imposed on it, is July 1 of this year.
