Beyoncé Breaks Record; Grammy Nominees for 2015 Announced

With the announcement of the nominees for the 2015 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé managed to break a record, while young British singer Sam Smith topped the list with six nominations. The initial nominees for the 2015 Grammy Awards were announced live on a television program in the U.S. on Friday, December 6, by Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran. With the announcement of the Grammy nominees, Beyoncé, who had previously been in a tight race with Dolly Parton with 46 nominations, was able to surpass her by six points, achieving 52 nominations and claiming the title for the most nominations for women in Grammy history. However, the record for the most Grammy nominations still belongs to Quincy Jones with 79 nominations. The record for the most awards is held by Sir Georg Solti, the Hungarian conductor, with 31 awards. Beyoncé has won the Grammy Award 17 times so far. This year, Sam Smith has the highest number of nominations in the main categories with six, followed by Iggy Azalea with four nominations. In the category of Album of the Year, Beck with "Morning Phase," Beyoncé with "Beyoncé," Ed Sheeran with "X," Sam Smith with "In the Lonely Hour," and Pharrell Williams with "Girl" are nominated for the award. Ryan Adams for "Ryan Adams," Beck with "Morning Phase," The Black Keys with "Turn Blue," Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for "Hypnotic Eye," and U2 for "Songs of Innocence" are among the nominees for Best Rock Album this year. Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, Brandy Clark, Haim, and Bastille are also nominated for Best New Artist. Meghan Trainor with "All About That Bass," Sia with "Chandelier," Taylor Swift with "Shake It Off," Sam Smith with "Stay With Me," and Hozier with "Take Me to Church" are nominated for Song of the Year, and in the category of Record of the Year, Sia with "Chandelier," Sam Smith with "Stay With Me," Taylor Swift with "Shake It Off," Meghan Trainor with "All About That Bass," and Iggy Azalea with "Fancy" are nominated. In the Best Music Video category, films such as "Gone Girl" directed by David Fincher, "American Hustle" by David O. Russell, "The Wolf of Wall Street" by Martin Scorsese, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" directed by Wes Anderson, "Saving Mr. Banks" by John Lee Hancock, and "Gravity" by Alfonso Cuarón are noted. The 57th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 8, 2015 (19 Bahman) in Los Angeles.
