Biden Announces Action to Lift Ukraine's Ban on Long-Range Weapons

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, stated that his administration is taking steps to lift the ban on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons in the war against Russia, a decision that reflects a shift in Washington's policies regarding this conflict. On Tuesday, September 11, in response to a question about whether the White House would lift the restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons, Mr. Biden said that his administration is 'currently working on this issue.' The United States has so far been reluctant to allow Ukraine access to weapons that could target deep within Russian territory due to concerns about escalating the war. Although other allies of Kyiv have provided such weapons to the Ukrainian army, they too have imposed restrictions on Ukraine regarding how and when to use them in Russian territory, fearing that the use of these weapons could draw NATO member countries into the war or create a nuclear conflict. Last week, Reuters reported, citing informed sources, that the United States is close to an agreement to send these types of weapons to Ukraine, but Kyiv will have to wait several months as the United States is addressing some technical issues.
