Biden: The Time for a Ceasefire in Gaza Has Come

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, will meet with leaders from three U.S. allied countries in Berlin, Germany, on Friday, October 19. Upon arriving in Berlin, he referred to the killing of Yahya Sinwar and stated that the time for a ceasefire in Gaza has come. According to the White House website, Mr. Biden told reporters at Schönefeld Airport in Germany that the death of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, was a 'good day' for the world and noted that Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Israelis, Palestinians, Americans, and citizens from over 30 countries. The U.S. President also mentioned that he had contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on the killing of Sinwar. He added that in this conversation, he told Netanyahu, 'We are really satisfied with his actions, and now it is time to move towards a ceasefire in Gaza.' Joe Biden said, 'It is time for this war to end and for the hostages to return home,' adding, 'This is something we are ready to do.' He noted that Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, will be sent to Israel in the next 4 or 5 days and added that they will examine how to secure Gaza. The U.S. President then responded to a reporter's question by saying he feels 'more hopeful' about establishing a ceasefire in Gaza. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Mr. Biden is looking to strengthen cooperation with key European partners of the United States, namely Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, on issues such as the war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East. Biden's statement regarding the elimination of Yahya Sinwar and his trip to Europe for the quadrilateral meeting of the U.S., Germany, France, and the UK highlights that the killing of Sinwar is a good day for Israel, the U.S., and the world.
