Biden: We are monitoring Iran's nuclear activities like a hawk

Joe Biden, the U.S. Vice President, stated that the United States is monitoring Iran's nuclear activities to ensure compliance with the country's commitments under the nuclear agreement with the West, likening the scrutiny to that of a 'hawk.' According to a report on Tuesday (April 2), Biden made these remarks at the annual meeting of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). He added that following the implementation of the JCPOA, Tehran is much further from acquiring nuclear weapons compared to previous years. He also stated that under the agreement between Iran and the West, the Islamic Republic will never be allowed to build nuclear weapons. Biden, who repeatedly used the word 'never' in his statements, also warned Tehran that if it violates its commitments, it will face a reaction from the United States. His reference was to certain provisions of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the West that would allow for the re-imposition of sanctions against Tehran in the event of violations by the Islamic Republic. These comments from Barack Obama's deputy came shortly after remarks by Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, who accused the U.S. of violating its commitments under the nuclear agreement. Khamenei stated that sanctions have been 'lifted on paper, but they act in such a way that the effect of lifting the sanctions does not materialize at all.' He claimed that the Americans 'committed on paper' but 'prevented the Islamic Republic's objectives through various means.' The Islamic Republic has always declared that it does not intend to produce nuclear weapons and is pursuing nuclear activities in peaceful domains. Under the JCPOA agreement, Iran committed to significantly reduce its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.
