Bipartisan Proposal in the House of Representatives; Goal: Sanctioning Iran's Missile and Drone Programs

Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Dean Phillips and Gregory W. Meeks, members of the Ranking Committee, along with Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, have introduced a bipartisan proposal to sanction a wide range of Iran's missile and drone activities. They aim to impose new sanctions from the U.S. and the international community on Iran's destructive missile and drone activities before the expiration of the UN missile sanctions against Iran in October 2023. According to this proposal, the assets of individuals involved in the supply, sale, transfer, or support of Iran's missiles and drones will be seized, and their entry into the U.S. will be prevented. The U.S. government is also required to provide Congress with a report detailing Iran's missile and drone activities. The members of the House of Representatives believe that even with UN restrictions, Iran's missiles and drones target U.S. forces, allies, and partners throughout the Middle East and increasingly fuel Vladimir Putin's aggressive war against Ukraine. The mentioned representatives warned about the devastating dangers of Iran's missile and drone activities if the international community does not take immediate action, stating that this bipartisan proposal aims to limit Iran's arsenal, deter the Islamic Republic and its proxy forces, and prevent the proliferation of these weapons to new conflict zones, regardless of UN restrictions.
