Blinken: The Formation of a Palestinian State Will Isolate the Islamic Republic

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Thursday, January 21, that the establishment of a Palestinian state is the best way to create stability in the region and isolate the Islamic Republic and its proxy forces. According to Reuters, Mr. Blinken, speaking at the end of his regional trip in Cairo after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, noted that the region faces two paths: in the first path, Israel is integrated into the region and receives security guarantees and commitments from regional countries as well as the United States and a Palestinian state, while 'the other path is witnessing terrorism, nihilism, and destruction by Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah, which are supported by Iran.' In recent days, the U.S. Secretary of State has traveled to Greece, Turkey, and several Middle Eastern countries. Meanwhile, Israel faced genocide charges in the International Court of Justice on Thursday, brought by South Africa regarding the Gaza war. Reports indicate that during three months of attacks on Gaza by Israel, most areas of the Gaza Strip have been devastated, forcing the majority of the 2.3 million Palestinian population to flee their homes. In this context, the Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by the militant group Hamas, states that over 23,000 people have been killed due to Israeli attacks. Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields and utilizing public buildings such as hospitals and schools for military operations. Israeli attacks on Gaza began following terrorist attacks by Hamas militants on October 7, which resulted in at least 1,200 deaths, most of whom were civilians. Hamas militants also took over 240 hostages, including children and the elderly, with more than 130 hostages still held by Hamas. Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations have reported that restrictions on the entry of essential goods into Gaza by Israel have reduced the supply of food, fuel, and medicine. In this regard, the United Nations has described the current conditions in Gaza as a humanitarian disaster. Conversely, Israel, while noting an increase in the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, is concerned that among the incoming aid, goods needed by Hamas may reach the group. Continuing clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have also been reported, with Hezbollah-affiliated rescue forces stating that in an Israeli attack on a civilian defense center in southern Lebanon on Thursday, two rescuers were killed, and an ambulance was destroyed. The Israeli army has not responded to this incident. According to reports, the number of civilians killed in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon has reached 25, including children and journalists. Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and Israel's retaliatory strikes on Gaza, at least 140 Hezbollah militants and 9 Israeli soldiers have been killed. Hezbollah also launched rockets at the Israeli border on Thursday, coinciding with U.S. Special Envoy Amos Hochstein's meeting with Lebanese officials in Beirut, as he attempts to reduce tensions in the region. Blinken expressed concern over civilian casualties in Gaza, with the World Health Organization calling the situation a disaster. Politico reported that intelligence officials warned of a serious risk of Hezbollah attacking U.S. interests, even on American soil. Blinken warned the Islamic Republic that support for the Houthis would have 'consequences.' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, 'We are fighting Hamas terrorists, not Palestinians.' Israeli attacks on Gaza have intensified despite promises to reduce forces.
