Blinken: The U.S. and Israel Collaborate to Prevent Iranian Government Aggressions

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized on Thursday, October 25, the "close coordination" between the U.S. and Israel to prevent "further aggressions" from the Iranian government. Blinken added that the U.S., in collaboration with its partners, has conveyed to Tehran, "directly or indirectly," that further attacks on Israel would have "deeply negative consequences" for Iran's interests. Having recently visited Israel, Blinken reiterated after meeting with senior Qatari officials that escalating tensions are "not in anyone's interest." The senior U.S. diplomat's remarks came amid repeated threats from senior Israeli officials regarding a definitive response to the Islamic Republic's missile attack on Israel. On October 1, the Iranian government launched over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, following a previous attack on April 14, where it fired 320 projectiles, including suicide drones and ballistic and cruise missiles. In another part of his remarks regarding the war between Israel and Hezbollah, Blinken stated that the United States does not want Israel's operations in Lebanon to become prolonged. According to Blinken, Israel must take necessary steps to prevent civilian casualties and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers and Lebanese armed forces. He added that the U.S. is intensively working to find a diplomatic solution to facilitate the return of Israeli and Lebanese civilians to their homes in the border areas of the two countries. Concurrently with U.S. diplomatic efforts, France also held a conference to raise aid for Lebanon. According to Reuters, this conference raised $1 billion in aid for Lebanon, with $200 million allocated to the military and $800 million for humanitarian assistance. French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for a ceasefire, stating that continued civilian casualties and destruction in Lebanon would not lead to an end to terrorism and security for all. Following the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, Hezbollah unilaterally began its rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel. In response, Israel has conducted severe attacks against this Iranian-backed group's positions in Lebanon and Syria, killing hundreds of its members, including leaders and senior military commanders such as Hassan Nasrallah, Foad Shakir, Ibrahim Aqeel, and Hashem Safi al-Din. Simultaneously with heavy airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, southern Beirut suburbs, and the Bekaa Valley, Israel has deployed ground troops to parts of southern Lebanon. So far, several countries, including the United States, Israel, Germany, Serbia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, and Australia, have recognized Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. The designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization means that there is no distinction made between its political and military branches, labeling both as terrorist entities. Qatar Airways has suspended flights to Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. The Times reported that Israel postponed its attack on Iran following the leak of U.S. intelligence documents. An international conference in Paris was held with Macron's goal of garnering military and humanitarian support for Lebanon. The U.S. Secretary of Defense stated that the deployment of the THAAD defense system reflects America's ironclad commitment to defending Israel. Discussions on three potential scenarios for war between Israel and the Islamic Republic were held with Hossein Aghaei. Michael McCaul stated that the leak of classified information is an "unjustifiable" breach of U.S. national security. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 200 members of the Revolutionary Guard and Tehran's proxy militias have been killed this year.
