Blinken: The U.S. Will Allocate Up to $250 Million in Military Aid to Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that the value of the latest aid package for Ukraine this year will be up to $250 million and will include various weapons and equipment. Blinken stated that this aid package includes air defense munitions, additional munitions for high mobility artillery rocket systems, artillery munitions, anti-tank munitions, and over 15 million rounds. However, further assistance to Ukraine after the end of the year will require an agreement between the U.S. government and Congress. President Joe Biden has requested Congress to consider an additional $61 billion in aid for Ukraine. Republicans in Congress insist that improving U.S.-Mexico border security be part of any aid agreement for Ukraine. The White House has warned that if the current trend continues, U.S. aid for the Ukrainian battle to reclaim territories occupied by Russian forces since the invasion in February 2022 will end by the end of the year. Since the Russian attack, Congress has approved over $110 billion in aid for Ukraine, but since January 2022, when Republicans took control of the House of Representatives, Congress has not approved any funding in this regard.
