The 70-year-old Menendez, who has refused to testify in his own trial, has publicly emphasized that he only served as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and that the gold bars discovered by the FBI at his home in New Jersey belong to his wife, Nadine. According to prosecutors, an inspection of the couple's home revealed the equivalent of $100,000 in gold bars and $480,000 in cash.
