Bobby Moore's England Football Shirt Sold for $110,000 at Auction

The shirt worn by Bobby Moore, the star footballer of England, during the first round match of the 1970 World Cup against Brazil was sold at auction for $110,000. After England's defeat in the match, Moore exchanged his shirt with Pelé, the king of Brazilian and world football, and they embraced each other, a moment captured in a photograph that became historic. This first-round World Cup match between England and Brazil is recorded as one of the best matches in football history. Ultimately, the Brazilian team went on to win the tournament, achieving a record of three World Cup victories. The shirt, as Moore had given it to Pelé, was dirty and stained with mud and grass, and was purchased by English collector Steve Gilbert at the famous Christie's auction house on Wednesday (March 24). Steve Gilbert referred to this shirt as the second most important shirt in history, with the first undoubtedly being the shirt worn by Moore in the 1966 World Cup final, which led to England's championship. Before retiring from football, Bobby Moore played in 108 international matches for the England national team. He passed away from lung cancer at the age of 51 in 1993.
