Body of 'Parasite' Actor Found in Park in Seoul

Following the discovery of the body of Lee Sun-kyun, a South Korean actor who gained worldwide fame for his role in the Oscar-winning film 'Parasite', speculation about the possibility of his suicide has arisen. Police found the body of the renowned actor in a car near a park in Seoul on Wednesday, January 6. Apparently, a suicide note was also found beside him. Earlier, Lee's wife had reported his disappearance. The 48-year-old actor had faced police questioning three times regarding allegations of illegal drug use during the South Korean government's crackdown on drugs. The last interrogation session, which took place over the past weekend, lasted 19 hours. Lee had stated in court that a bar manager had attempted to extort him by tricking and addicting him to drugs. Violating South Korea's strict drug laws can result in six months of imprisonment, and repeated offenses or drug sales can lead to up to 14 years in prison. 'Parasite', a black comedy directed by Bong Joon-ho, was nominated for six Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards and ultimately won four, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. It was the first non-English language film to win the Best Picture award. In the film, Lee played the role of 'Mr. Park', the father of a wealthy family, whose members of a lower-class family infiltrate his affluent household by posing as highly skilled domestic workers. Jeon Hye-jin, Lee's wife, is also an actress with several awards to her name. The couple had two children.
