Boroujerdi: America's Dream for Another Agreement with Iran Will Not Come True

After the Supreme Leader's criticism of the 'imposition of JCPOA 2 and 3', the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament stated that 'America's dream' of reaching other JCPOAs and 'another agreement' with Iran 'using the leverage of sanctions or other means will not come true.' According to the IRIB news agency, Aladdin Boroujerdi emphasized on Tuesday, April 2, that negotiations between Iran and the U.S. are 'solely' about the nuclear issue, and due to 'differences in policies', Iran will have 'no understanding or agreement' with this country on other issues. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, had said in his Nowruz speech in Mashhad that the Western side 'does not consider the nuclear issue resolved' and wants to imply that 'JCPOAs 2 and 3 and so on must come into existence for us to live comfortably.' Just hours before these remarks, Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, had referred to the elections of Esfand 7 as the beginning of 'JCPOA 2' and emphasized that 'this JCPOA begins with ethics before the economy.' In this context, according to Fars News Agency, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, considered the discussion of issues such as 'JCPOA 2 and 3' as 'preparing the ground for infiltration.' He added: 'Those who think that trusting America and pursuing other JCPOAs can solve problems are seriously mistaken.' He urged Rouhani's government to utilize 'the existing capacities in the resistant economy' to solve the country's problems instead of waiting for U.S. action. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, like in previous years, has named the year 95 as 'the year of resistant economy, action, and work.' Mr. Khamenei has repeatedly emphasized 'resistant economy', which describes an economy independent of foreign countries, especially during sanctions. In this regard, Eshaq Jahangiri, the First Vice President, announced that '12 national programs' have been developed to achieve 'resistant economy.' Mr. Boroujerdi further described the 'smiles' of the U.S. President to the Iranian people as akin to a 'velvet glove' under which 'America's steel claws are hidden.' Previously, Mohammad Reza Naqdi, head of the Basij Organization, had also stated that America 'is not considered a friend with a few smiles and a Nowruz message.' Barack Obama, the President of the United States, congratulated all Iranians on the beginning of the Iranian New Year in a Nowruz message, wishing them health and prosperity. The U.S. President, referring to his historic trip to Cuba, stated that even after 'decades of distrust' between old enemies on the global stage, it is still possible to open a new path among them and start a new relationship. John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State, also emphasized in his Nowruz message that 'the hand of friendship' from the United States will remain extended to 'the people of Iran.'
