Brazil Arrests Another Suspect Linked to Hezbollah

On Sunday, Brazilian police arrested another man on suspicion of connections to the militant group Hezbollah. This brings the total number of detainees suspected of ties to the group to three. The arrest was confirmed by two sources who requested anonymity, as reported by Reuters. The identity of the arrested individual, detained in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, has not been disclosed, but sources indicate that his alleged connection to Hezbollah, which is supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, is under investigation. Last week, Brazil arrested two individuals in São Paulo during an operation aimed at dismantling a suspected Hezbollah cell that allegedly intended to attack Jewish targets in the South American country. It was previously reported that one of the individuals arrested in Brazil last week confessed to the Federal Police that he traveled to Beirut in April to meet someone believed to be a Hezbollah leader. He told the police that this individual recruits members in Hezbollah who are 'capable of killing and kidnapping.' Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stated in 2019 that he intended to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, but this action was never taken.
