Britain Begins Surveillance Flights to Help Locate Hostages in Gaza

The UK Ministry of Defence announced that it will conduct surveillance flights over Gaza to assist in locating individuals taken hostage by Hamas since the October 7 attack on Israel. The Ministry stated that since the onset of attacks by the terrorist group Hamas, Britain has been collaborating with its allies to help free hostages, including British nationals abducted by Hamas. The statement emphasized that the release of British hostages is a high priority for the country. The Ministry also stressed that the dispatched surveillance aircraft are unarmed and will solely be used for identifying the locations of hostages, with any relevant information provided to responsible authorities. Britain has stated that at least 12 British citizens were taken hostage during the October 7 Hamas attacks, but it has not confirmed how many are currently held by Hamas. Hamas killed at least 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the October 7 attacks on Israel and took around 240 hostages, including children, women, and the elderly. Along with the United States, the European Union, and several other countries, Britain has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization. London did not specify when it would commence its surveillance flights over the region.
