Britain Calls for De-escalation from Iranian Government

Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of Britain, on Monday, February 9, a day after the deadly attack by the Islamic Republic's proxy forces on American soldiers in Jordan, called on the Iranian government to take action to reduce tensions. Mr. Sunak, while fully condemning this attack, stated: "We are concerned and urge Iran to continue de-escalation in the region." The Prime Minister of Britain added: "We stand firmly with our allies to bring stability and peace to the region, and this is what we will continue to strive for." A spokesperson for Rishi Sunak also told reporters: "According to U.S. assessments, we believe this attack was carried out by extremist militant groups supported by Iran that are active in Syria and Iraq." He added: "We will continue to use all our capacities, diplomatic and otherwise, to de-escalate in the region." David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary, also condemned this attack on Sunday and expressed regret over the deaths and injuries of American soldiers, calling for de-escalation from the Islamic Republic. The attack on Sunday resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers and injuries to 34 others, marking the first deadly attack on American forces since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack in southern Israel. Joe Biden, the President of the United States, in response to this attack by Iranian-affiliated militants, stated: "We will respond." This attack also faced widespread reactions from members of the U.S. Congress, with many, especially Republican lawmakers, calling for direct attacks on the Revolutionary Guards. The consequences of the deaths of American soldiers and tensions in the region led to the dollar increasing by 1800 tomans in less than 24 hours. The former CIA director described the deadly drone attack in Jordan as a "dangerous development" with "consequences." Reuters reported that Iranian proxy forces have attacked U.S. interests in the region more than 150 times since October 7. The Washington Post noted that "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claimed responsibility for the attack on the U.S. military base. A senior American general stated: "If a broader conflict with the Islamic Republic occurs, we will respond."
