Britain Imposes New Sanctions on Iran's Drone and Missile Industries

On Thursday, April 25, Britain announced that in coordination with the United States and Canada, it would impose a new round of sanctions against individuals and companies involved in the drone and missile industries of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the British Prime Minister's office, the new sanctions, announced in coordination with the U.S. and Canada, come after the Iranian regime's attack on April 15, in which over 300 drones and missiles were fired towards Israel. David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary, stated, "The Iranian regime's dangerous attack on Israel posed the risk of thousands of civilian casualties and heightened tensions in the region. Today, Britain and our partners have sent a clear message: we will hold those responsible for Iran's destabilizing behavior accountable." The British Foreign Secretary added that they would continue to impose further restrictions on the Iranian government's ability to develop and export these deadly weapons alongside their partners. Cameron also mentioned in media outlet 'X' that the Islamic Republic of Iran "endangers Israel's security by using drones and exacerbates tensions across the Middle East." He continued, "Together with the United States and Canada, we are targeting individuals and companies responsible for drone production and military activities in a way that will hit them hardest." According to the British Foreign Secretary, the imposition of new sanctions is a continuation of a commitment made at last week's G7 Foreign Ministers' meeting to counter the Iranian government's destabilizing activities in the region. With these sanctions, Seyyed Mohsen Wahabzadeh Moghadam and Abbas Abdi Asjerd, who are managers of companies active in drone production, are banned from traveling to Britain, and their assets will be frozen. The companies affected by the new sanctions include Bonyan Danesh Shargh, Pioneers of Aseman Sharif Industry, Alvand Engine Manufacturing Industries, and Moj Gostar Parvaz. The new sanctions add to over four hundred sanctions that Britain has previously imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran. On Thursday, April 30, Britain also coordinated with the United States to sanction seven individuals and six organizations involved in the Iranian government's attack on Israel. The British Prime Minister's statement regarding these sanctions noted that "in a coordinated action with the United States, senior military figures of Iran were sanctioned in response to the Iranian regime's direct and dangerous attack on Israel." Meanwhile, on Thursday, April 25, the United States also issued new sanctions related to the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia. According to a statement from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, Poya Airline, eight individuals, five ships, and fifteen entities are included in the new sanctions. The U.S. Treasury Department stated that these individuals, entities, and ships have played a central role in facilitating and financing the covert sale of drones for the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support. The U.S. has also imposed new sanctions related to the Islamic Republic's drone assistance to Russia. The European Parliament has passed a resolution stating that the IRGC and the entirety of Hezbollah should be listed as "terrorist organizations." The U.S. Treasury Secretary stated that they are using sanctions to disrupt the Iranian government's destabilizing activities. The U.S. has placed several Chinese and Russian entities on the "blacklist" due to their connections with the Iranian drone program.
