Britain Imposes New Sanctions on Iran's Military Industries

On Monday, September 16, Britain imposed new sanctions on the military industries of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to a statement from the British government, the sanctions, which align with similar steps taken by London’s allies, will disrupt the production and supply of drones and missiles by the Islamic Republic of Iran and increase pressure on the government’s military industries. The sanctions target goods and technologies deemed 'strategically concerning' by Britain. According to the statement, the export, supply, delivery, and provision of these items to the Islamic Republic of Iran are prohibited. Additionally, providing technical assistance, brokering services, financial services, or financing for these items is also banned. According to 'List No. 4' of the British government's regulations, these items include drones, piston aircraft internal combustion engines, night vision and thermal cameras, equipment specifically designed for satellite navigation systems, airborne laser rangefinders, and software programming devices for use in drones. There is ample evidence that the Islamic Republic of Iran supplies weapons such as drones and missiles to its proxy groups across the Middle East. Furthermore, following Putin's invasion of Ukraine, the Iranian government has delivered thousands of drones and recently hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia. These destabilizing actions by the Islamic Republic have elicited reactions from the international community, resulting in extensive sanctions against individuals and entities involved in these actions. Despite abundant evidence, the Iranian government denies arming its proxy groups with missiles and drones and sending ballistic missiles to Russia. The G7 condemned the delivery of ballistic missiles by the Iranian government to Russia. Ukraine reported that Russia has launched over 8,000 'Shahed' drones since the beginning of the war. The delivery of hundreds of Iranian 'Fateh 360' missiles to Russia has been described by the U.S. as a 'very destabilizing' development. The European Union has stated that the delivery of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia poses a 'direct threat' to them, and new actions against the Islamic Republic are forthcoming.
