Britain Removes One Individual and Eight Companies from Iran Sanctions

The UK Treasury Department announced in a statement published on June 29 that it has removed one individual and eight legal entities from its sanctions list related to Iran. According to the department, these individuals are no longer subject to asset blocking laws. At the same time, information regarding six other legal entities in the sanctions list against Iran has been amended, but they remain under sanctions. The new amendment was published in the official journal of the European Union on June 26 of this year and took effect the following day. The individual removed from the sanctions list is Mahmoud Jantian, a former deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization. He was placed on the EU sanctions list in 2008 along with several military officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other senior officials from nuclear and electronic centers and companies. Mahmoud Jantian was reportedly dismissed from his position in 2007, and at that time, the Kayhan newspaper refuted claims in Russian media regarding his dismissal due to mismanagement of the Bushehr nuclear power plant project, stating that he had 'retired.' The companies removed from the sanctions list include Bright Nord, CF Sharp & Company, Kozi-East, Great West, Happy-Sud, Prosper Basic, NHL Basic, and NHL Nordland. Iran has faced sanctions from the UN Security Council for advancing its nuclear programs in violation of the Council's demands. Additionally, the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, and their allies have imposed separate sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities. Currently, Iranian officials and the six world powers in the 5+1 group are negotiating to draft a document for the 'Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,' which aims to provide a practical solution for verifying the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program and, on the other hand, lifting sanctions.
