Britain Says IRGC Aims to Lure Ships into Iranian Waters with Radio Disruptions

Britain has warned about the Islamic Republic's overt efforts to force ships into its waters. The Associated Press reported that a warning has been issued to mariners in the Persian Gulf regarding what appears to be attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to compel vessels to enter Iranian waters. A statement released by the British Army's Maritime Trade Operations noted that 'there have been several incidents related to VHF radio challenges for ships.' The organization states: 'It is assessed that these are likely part of a large-scale exercise by the IRGC.' Following two strikes by Israel, which were in retaliation for two separate ballistic missile attacks on Israel by Tehran, the Islamic Republic has engaged in a two-month military exercise across the country. According to the Associated Press, the Iranian government, which has a history of harassing and seizing ships, has not recently conducted such attacks directly.
