Britain Targets Russian Revenue Sources with New Sanctions Package

On Thursday, Britain imposed new sanctions against over 50 individuals and entities linked to Russia. According to British officials, these sanctions aim to target key revenue sources for Russia, such as diamonds, metals, and energy trade, to weaken the 'Russian war machine.' David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary, emphasized support for Ukraine in a statement, saying new measures are being implemented to expand the list of blocked items to undermine the 'Russian war machine.' He added, 'Our international economic pressure means that Russia cannot sustain this illegal invasion.' According to Cameron, the recent sanctions 'deprive Putin of the resources he desperately needs to finance the war.' The British Foreign Office stated that among those sanctioned are importers and manufacturers collaborating with defense industries, as well as producers of fighter jets, tanks, and missiles. Simultaneously, these sanctions aim to target the 'notorious' Russian shipping activities to circumvent oil sanctions imposed by Britain and leading industrial nations in the G7. Earlier, EU members approved the thirteenth sanctions package related to Ukraine against Russia, targeting nearly 200 entities and individuals accused of assisting Moscow in acquiring weapons or being involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children. Britain has now sanctioned over 2,000 Russian individuals and entities. It is expected that at the UN meeting, David Cameron will further express Britain's ongoing support for Ukraine.
