Britain: The Iranian government is still planning an attack on Israel

Richard Moore, the head of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), stated on Saturday, September 8, that the Iranian government is still planning an attack on Israel in response to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh. According to Reuters, Mr. Moore said during a speech at an event hosted by the British newspaper 'Financial Times' that he believes the Islamic Republic will attempt to attack Israel. The head of MI6 emphasized that one cannot ignore the activities of the Iranian government in this regard. Hezbollah, a proxy group of the Islamic Republic, carried out a rocket attack on northern Israel on July 28, resulting in the deaths of 12 children and teenagers. In retaliation, Israel targeted Foad Shukr, the highest military commander of Hezbollah, in a deadly attack in Beirut on August 1. Just hours later, in the early morning of August 2, Ismail Haniyeh, then head of Hamas's political bureau, was also targeted in a deadly attack in Tehran, which Iranian officials attribute to Israel despite a 'neither confirm nor deny' stance. The Iranian government and Hezbollah have warned that they will not leave these deadly attacks unanswered. Israeli officials have also promised that anyone who attacks the country will pay a heavy price. The United States, Europe, and other Western allies of Israel have called for de-escalation and the need to prevent the spread of conflicts to other areas of the Middle East while warning that they will defend Israel against attacks from the Iranian government and its proxies. The Israeli Foreign Minister, in a meeting with his German counterpart, stated that Khamenei wants to send weapons to the West Bank like Gaza. An Associated Press review questioned the accuracy of the Iranian missile fleet in a potential attack on Israel. U.S. lawmakers reacted to the deaths of Israeli hostages, with Lindsey Graham stating that the Iranian government should be held accountable. Lufthansa has extended its suspension of flights to Tehran and Tel Aviv until September 5.
