British Police: Major Progress in Investigation of London Attack Perpetrators

British police officials say that the investigation into the perpetrators of the London attack has made 'significant progress'; several individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. A group known as the Islamic State has claimed that a 'unit' from their group carried out the attack. Mark Rowley, a senior member of the Metropolitan Police, stated that several agencies are gathering information to determine exactly what happened; 'The investigation into them (the attackers), their connections, and whether they had any collaboration or support from others is ongoing.' Meanwhile, it has been reported that 12 people have been arrested in relation to the attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday night. The arrests took place in Barking, East London, and police are continuing investigations in the area. At the same time, Reuters and AFP report that a website affiliated with the group known as the 'Islamic State' claims that a 'unit of its soldiers' executed the London attack. During the attacks on Saturday night, at around 10 PM, three attackers drove a vehicle into a number of people on London Bridge and then attacked Borough Market nearby. Their vehicle crashed near a pub. They then exited the vehicle armed with knives and targeted people. Seven people were killed in these attacks, and at least 48 others were injured, with the condition of 21 of the injured reported as critical. Police forces arrived at the scene minutes after the incident, a total of 50 shots were fired, and within eight minutes of the security forces' arrival, all three attackers were neutralized. The attackers wore vests resembling suicide vests, but it was determined that they were fake, and the attackers apparently used them to instill fear among the public. The British police and government have labeled the London attacks as 'terrorist.' This is the third such attack in Britain since the beginning of the Persian calendar month of Farvardin. In early spring, an attacker drove a vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge near the British Parliament; one of the guards of the Parliament building was killed during the attack, and the attacker was also shot and killed at the scene. Two weeks ago, a suicide bomber killed 22 people during an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, many of whom were children and teenagers. Just hours after the London events, a charity concert was held to commemorate the victims of the Manchester attack, featuring Ariana Grande and several pop music stars. The British Red Cross reported that $13 million was raised at this concert. Twitter users shared images of police playing with children during the Manchester charity concert. The attacks in Manchester and London occurred shortly before the UK general elections. The ruling Conservative Party, the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats, and the Scottish National Party are among the main political entities competing against each other on June 8. These parties paused their election campaigns for one day on Sunday. Campaigning resumed today, Monday, June 5. Officials have stated that the scheduled voting time will not be canceled or postponed. In this context, the attackers' assault with a vehicle and knives on people in London resulted in seven deaths. The British Prime Minister stated that we are facing a new trend of terrorist threats.
