Campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi Calls for the Release of This Labor Activist

The campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi announced that this imprisoned labor activist has been transferred to the hospital after persistent follow-ups. They emphasized the necessity for her immediate release and demanded that the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran respond to her critical health situation. According to the campaign's statement, "After continuous follow-ups and extensive efforts by Sharifeh Mohammadi and her family, she was transferred to the hospital on Sunday, January 9, to treat an infection in her toenail that was spreading and affecting all her toes." The campaign pointed out that her health condition in prison had severely deteriorated, adding that limited medical interventions inside the prison had no effect on her improvement. The report indicated that in Lakan Prison in Rasht, especially in the women's ward, there is a significant shortage of health and medical facilities, and inadequate sanitary conditions and lack of access to appropriate medical care severely threaten the health of prisoners. The campaign noted that Sharifeh Mohammadi, as a political prisoner, had developed serious health issues due to the poor sanitary and medical conditions inside the prison, which only led to her transfer to the hospital under pressure from her family. The statement emphasized that "the negligence regarding Sharifeh Mohammadi's physical condition in prison not only constitutes a gross violation of her human rights but also reflects the irresponsibility and indifference of the authorities towards the health of prisoners." The campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi stressed that "the health of every prisoner, especially individuals like Sharifeh Mohammadi who are imprisoned due to social and civil activities, places a heavy responsibility on the authorities and must be seriously monitored and protected." The campaign also called for further follow-ups to ensure the health and unconditional release of this labor activist. Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested in Azar 1402 (December 2023) and on July 14 of this year was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of "baghy" (rebellion) through membership in one of the opposition groups.
