Campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi Reports Transfer of This Death Row Prisoner's Mother to Hospital Due to Heart Condition

The Campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi reported on Sunday, September 4, that the mother of this death row prisoner, incarcerated in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has suffered from a heart condition and has been transferred to the hospital. According to the campaign, 'The tormented mother of Sharifeh Mohammadi has developed a heart condition due to pressures and worries about her daughter's situation and has been hospitalized for several days.' The campaign's statement also noted, 'Sharifeh's mother, who has not yet been informed about her daughter's death sentence, has been grieving for nearly a year over the imprisonment of her innocent daughter.' Based on this statement, the imprisoned labor activist has also experienced 'concern and severe mental distress' after hearing the news of her mother's sudden illness and hospitalization. Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested in December of last year and sentenced to death on July 4, 2023, by the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of 'baghi' (rebellion). This sentence was issued based on allegations from the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic regarding her membership in 'Komala'; Sharifeh Mohammadi, her husband Siros Fathi, and the Komala party have denied this accusation. Sharifeh Mohammadi's case is currently under review by the Supreme Court. The Campaign for Sharifeh Mohammadi reported the submission of a letter requesting the cancellation of her death sentence to the office of the UN Secretary-General. Human rights organizations have expressed concern over further executions on the eve of the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. The UN fact-finding committee regarding Iran has deemed the government's actions against Sharifeh Mohammadi as 'a violation of human rights.' A statement from 31 human rights organizations in support of Sharifeh Mohammadi emphasized that her activities have been peaceful and legal.
