Campaign 'No to Executions on Tuesdays': Execution of 21 People Coinciding with the New Year

The campaign 'No to Executions on Tuesdays' announced in a statement on Tuesday, January 8, that the Islamic Republic of Iran executed 21 people on December 31, coinciding with the beginning of the New Year. According to the statement from this campaign, the number of executions has exceeded 80 since the beginning of December, and in 2024, the number of executions has reached 1,000, marking another record in this area. Meanwhile, 128 countries around the world have abolished the death penalty. Recently, Zimbabwe has completely abolished the death penalty in celebration of the New Year. However, in Iran, the number of executions continues to rise. Members of the 'No to Executions on Tuesdays' campaign announced that on Tuesday, January 8, 1403, coinciding with the anniversary of the Ukrainian plane crash, they will continue their hunger strike. This action comes as the families of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash have expressed solidarity with other claimants and protesters against the government's policies. In the continuation of the expansion of the 'No to Executions on Tuesdays' campaign, the prisons of Sepidar Ahvaz and Ramhormoz have also joined this protest movement. This campaign, which is now being implemented in 30 different prisons, includes hunger strikes by prisoners who protest against the death penalty and the government's repressive policies. The 'No to Executions on Tuesdays' campaign has called on all people in Iran and around the world to support this protest movement, striving for the abolition of the death penalty and resisting this inhumane policy. According to the organizers, victory in this path is possible and achievable. The prisons involved in the 'No to Executions on Tuesdays' campaign include Evin, Qazalhasar, Karaj, Greater Tehran, Khourin Varamin, Arak, Khorramabad, Asadabad Isfahan, Dashtgerd Isfahan, Shayban Ahvaz, Nazem Shiraz, Bam, Kahnouj, Tabas, Mashhad, Qaemshahr, Rasht, Rudsar, Ardabil, Tabriz, Urmia, Salmas, Khoy, Naqdeh, Saqqez, Baneh, Marivan, Kamyaran, Sepidar Ahvaz, and Ramhormoz.
