Cancellation of Iran's First Women's Football Match

The first women's football match, intended to officially launch women's football, scheduled for Friday, November 2, at the 100,000-seat Azadi Stadium, has been canceled. According to the Iran Sports News Agency (IPNA), the match between the women's teams of Saipa and Paykan, which had been announced by officials until yesterday to take place at 2:30 PM on November 2, has been called off. In this regard, Marzieh Akbar Abadi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Security at the Physical Education Organization, stated that after 25 years, the first text for conducting a women's football match was written, and since this was the first experience, several issues, such as service provision, which may seem insignificant at first glance, were not considered. We could have resolved this issue temporarily by securing these facilities from other organizations, but since our perspective on this match is not institutional, and we need to plan for the long term, we decided to postpone this match to another time. Meanwhile, officials in women's sports cited the relocation of the match venue from Takhti Stadium to Azadi Stadium as the sole reason for this decision and do not have a clear answer for the cancellation of this match, which had attracted many fans to attend the stadium based on evidence and indications. An important point here is whether, according to the relevant officials, the absence of a concession stand is truly the only reason for the cancellation of the match, or if the negligence of those involved caused this incident. Although they announced that this match has been postponed and not canceled, certainly, unreasonable postponements do not create any meaning other than the cancellation of women's sports programs in the public mind.
