Cause of Death for Gene Hackman and His Wife Announced: Heart Disease and a Deadly Virus

New Mexico officials announced that Gene Hackman, the famous Hollywood actor, died from heart disease and had advanced signs of Alzheimer's. His wife, Betty Arakawa, 65, also lost her life due to the Hantavirus, a rare but deadly disease. The bodies of the couple were found on February 26 in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but medical examinations indicate that their deaths occurred about nine days prior to the discovery of their bodies. Police ruled out any possibility of foul play after initial investigations, and tests also eliminated carbon monoxide poisoning. Hackman, 95, was found near the entrance of the house, while Arakawa was found in the bathroom. Autopsy results show that Hackman died from heart failure, while Alzheimer's had also affected his condition. Data from his pacemaker indicates that his heart stopped functioning on February 17. Arakawa died due to pulmonary syndrome caused by the Hantavirus. The Hantavirus, transmitted through contact with infected rodent droppings, is a rare but dangerous disease typically reported in spring and summer. This virus usually spreads in enclosed environments such as homes and warehouses and can cause severe respiratory issues. Adan Mendoza, the Santa Fe sheriff, announced in a press conference with health and fire officials that there is no evidence of human involvement in these deaths. Investigations conducted in the home showed no signs of gas leaks or carbon monoxide. The New Mexico gas company also reported no signs of technical issues after extensive checks. Authorities have collected some personal items of the couple, including a monthly planner and two mobile phones, for further examination. So far, no evidence of crime or suicide has been found, and forensic investigations continue to clarify further details.
