CENTCOM Commander Praises Israeli Army's Combat Readiness

General Michael Eric Kurilla, the commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), during his visit to Israel on Thursday and Friday, met with military and defense officials of the country, including Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense, and Herzi Halevi, the Chief of Staff of the Army. According to a statement from CENTCOM, General Kurilla observed the naval operations of the Israeli Navy's commando unit during this visit. Kurilla and Halevi discussed ground and naval security operations, upcoming joint military maneuvers, and opportunities for increasing bilateral military cooperation. General Kurilla praised the capabilities and combat readiness of the Israeli army, stating, "Our strategic cooperation in the region, including our longstanding and unbreakable bond with the Israeli Defense Forces, is vital for the security and stability of the region." He noted that this visit reinforced the importance of U.S.-Israeli relations and the numerous opportunities ahead for both countries in the Middle East. The significance of this visit, according to Israeli analyst Seth Frantzman, in an interview with VOA Persian, was described as "an important sign of the close cooperation between the U.S. and Israel." He pointed out that General Kurilla's recent visit to Israel in January, amid Israel being under CENTCOM coverage, provides numerous new opportunities for joint military exercises. Mr. Frantzman believes that military exercises, especially involving fifth-generation F-35 jets, enable Americans and Israelis to learn from each other. This Middle East analyst highlighted that such meetings are particularly significant given the increasing tensions between the Islamic Republic on one side and the United States and Israel on the other. He referenced the recent visit of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's Foreign Minister, to the Lebanon-Israel border, stating that the Islamic Republic continues to supply drones and weapons to militants in Syria, which poses a threat to the U.S. and Israel. According to Mr. Frantzman, the seizure of a ship flying the Marshall Islands flag by the Islamic Republic indicates Iran's willingness to continue provocative actions, making U.S.-Israeli cooperation crucial at this time.
