CENTCOM Commander Visits Refugee Camps in Northeast Syria

The commander of the U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, visited refugee camps in Syria. General Michael Eric Kurilla recently traveled to Syria and visited two refugee camps in the northeast of the country, including the al-Hol camp. CENTCOM stated that these visits included discussions with camp managers as well as residents to closely assess the current humanitarian conditions, ongoing improvements in camp security, and efforts for the repatriation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of residents back to their countries. The CENTCOM commander said, 'The continuation of our multinational efforts to return camp residents to their home countries not only increases security and stability in the region but, more importantly, reduces this humanitarian challenge.' The CENTCOM commander stated that the U.S., the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the global coalition remain focused on the enduring defeat of ISIS and are committed to this goal. Kurilla mentioned that they are also addressing the humanitarian and security challenges in the northeast Syrian camps. During his visit to Syria, General Kurilla also met with the Syrian Democratic Forces and discussed ongoing efforts to defeat ISIS and continued humanitarian aid efforts in the region.
