CENTCOM Reports Successful Interception of Houthi Drone and Missile Attacks on Ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden

On Sunday, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on confrontational events with Yemen's Houthi rebels, stating that on this day, one ballistic missile and two drones from this Iranian-backed group were intercepted. According to CENTCOM, its forces shot down two drones in the southern Red Sea around 9 PM local time in Sana'a for self-defense, and another drone fell into the water due to a miscalculation during flight and was destroyed. The report indicated that the Houthis launched an anti-ship ballistic missile at 11:45 PM on Saturday towards a chemical/oil tanker flagged by the United States in the Gulf of Aden, which fell into the water without causing any damage. CENTCOM reiterated its efforts to ensure safe navigation, global trade, and maritime traffic in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, while protecting American forces and commercial vessels. On Sunday, March 6, the United States, Britain, Australia, Bahrain, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, and New Zealand announced that they targeted 18 Houthi sites, including underground weapon depots, missile storage, attack drones, air defense systems, radars, and a helicopter in eight locations in Yemen, as a response to continuous Houthi attacks on commercial and military ships operating in the Red Sea and surrounding waterways. This marked the fourth joint attack by the US and coalition forces on Houthi positions, with at least eighteen targets hit. Coalition forces stated that they would not hesitate to defend human lives and the free flow of trade. The destruction of the Houthi ballistic missile was confirmed by CENTCOM to have been aimed at an American oil tanker, and the White House noted that the US Navy's preemptive strikes against the Houthis were effective.
